  • A bushy, medium-sized, evergreen shrub with shiny red young leaves in early spring. The leaves change to bronze then dark green. In mid-spring, it bears densely packed panicles of bell-shaped, white flowers. This shrub requires an acidic soil or can be planted in ericaceous compost. Annual feeding with a fertilizer suitable for ericaceous plants may be required depending on soil. Remove dead flower clusters so berries do not form. This will encourage better flowering the following year.

    Height/Spread: 2 m x 1.5 m

    Aspect:Full sun to partial shade

    Soil: Moist but well-drained

    Flowering Season: Spring

Uses: Cottage garden, Japanese garden, Borders and beds, courtyard, wildlife

    RHS Award of Garden Merit

    Good for pollinators
