Thalictrum Black Stockings

Thalictrum Black Stockings is a tall, elegant meadow-rue with striking near-black stems topped by airy heads of small purple flowers in early to mid-summer, above fine, ferny green foliage. Ideal towards the back of a border, it thrives in sun or light shade in moist but well-drained, moderately fertile soil and suits cottage-style and woodland-edge plantings. In Irish gardens it typically reaches around 1.52m tall and about 4560cm wide.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height. We also use familiar garden tools as visual references: a digging fork (110cm tall) and a hand fork (30cm tall). These are included purely as size guides to help you better judge proportions when viewing the images.
